Weekend Backpacks Volunteer Day: Fighting Food Insecurity in Our Community Community Involvement

Weekend Backpacks Volunteer Day: Fighting Food Insecurity in Our Community

Every January, our firm is proud to give back through MAJ (Maryland Association of Justice) Women’s Caucus Weekend Backpacks Volunteer Day, an annual community service event focused on combating childhood hunger and food insecurity. Attorneys Suzanne Burnett and Alicen Jobes volunteer each year alongside fellow MAJ Women’s Caucus members to support this important cause.

Supporting Weekend Backpacks’ Mission

Weekend Backpacks is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students and families who face food insecurity when school meals are unavailable. While many children rely on free or reduced-price meals during the school week, weekends can be a critical gap.

Weekend Backpacks fills that gap by providing nutritious weekend meal bags designed to feed a family of three or four when students don’t have access to school-based meal programs. These backpacks ensure that children return to school on Monday nourished and ready to learn.

A Hands-On Volunteer Experience

During this volunteer day, MAJ Women’s Caucus members work together to raise funds and assemble weekend meal bags for local families in need. Our team assisted with organizing food donations, packing backpacks, and preparing supplies for distribution.

This hands-on experience highlights the power of community collaboration and the impact local organizations can have when people come together with a shared mission.

Why Community Involvement Matters

Food insecurity affects thousands of families each year, and its impact on children can be long-lasting. By supporting organizations like Weekend Backpacks, we help strengthen our local community and support students beyond the classroom.

Events like Weekend Backpacks Volunteer Day remind us that strong communities are built through compassion, collaboration, and service. We are honored to stand alongside the MAJ Women’s Caucus and Weekend Backpacks in supporting families facing food insecurity.
