2026 Strength Through Recovery Scholarship Winner

Congratulations, Myles Rontal!

Burnett Injury Group is proud to name Myles Rontal as our 2026 Strength Through Recovery Scholarship recipient.

“Now that I am fully recovered, I’m convinced that both the compassion of others and my hard work were essential in my successful journey… I was given a second chance after my accident, and I hoped to share that perspective through my actions and attitude.”

At just 12 years old, Myles was struck by a car while riding his bicycle with friends. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, shattered the back of his skull, and spent four days in a coma. His recovery included chronic pain, frequent headaches, and relearning everyday skills—all while navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout his recovery, returning to Camp Nebagamon, where he had spent his summers, became a source of motivation. Over the years, Myles grew from a camper into a leader, eventually completing a 21-day wilderness trip and returning as a counselor to mentor and care for younger campers.

What Set Myles Apart

Myles’s story of recovery is remarkable, but what stood out to us most was what he chose to do with that experience. He recognized that he had been given a second chance and chose to share that perspective through his actions and attitude.

His essay was thoughtful and exceptionally well written, but his maturity, leadership, resilience, and commitment to creating a place where everyone feels welcome truly set him apart. He has taken what he experienced and used it to help and inspire the next generation.

Myles plans to attend the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, and we are excited to see where this next chapter takes him.

Myles’s Reaction

“I felt like a million bucks! After receiving this scholarship, I was so excited. I put in so much work this year applying for scholarships to reduce the financial burden of college, and I was so thrilled that Burnett Injury Group gave me this opportunity to fund my education. I hope one day I can pay this forward.”

Congratulations, Myles! We are honored to support you on your journey.
