Associate Attorney – Personal Injury Litigation

Burnett Injury Group | Annapolis, Maryland (In-Office)

Burnett Injury Group is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our plaintiff-side personal injury practice in Annapolis, Maryland. We are open to candidates with at least one year of legal experience who are motivated to learn and grow, as well as mid-level attorneys ready to take on greater responsibility. Experienced attorneys with an existing book of business are also encouraged to apply.

The primary focus of this role is personal injury litigation, including motor vehicle collisions, premises liability, and sexual abuse cases. While our firm also handles medical malpractice and nursing home abuse matters, the associate’s primary responsibilities will be on the personal injury side. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with partners, receive mentorship, and progressively develop the skills needed to manage cases independently.

Responsibilities

The associate attorney will play a central role in case development and litigation, including:

  1. Conducting client consultations and intakes
  2. Case investigation and development
  3. Assisting with and eventually managing District Court and Circuit Court personal injury cases
  4. Drafting pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda
  5. Conducting legal research and case analysis
  6. Handling discovery, depositions, and court appearances
  7. Supporting partners in complex personal injury and malpractice litigation
  8. Coordinating focus groups and case strategy sessions for the firm
  9. Assisting with case disbursements and settlement processes
  10. Working collaboratively with attorneys and staff to advance cases and serve clients

Associates do not necessarily need to independently manage a full caseload immediately, but should be motivated to work toward handling cases with increasing independence under supervision and mentorship.  Ability to manage a caseload independently is a plus.

Qualifications

  1. Licensed and in good standing with the Maryland Bar (or ability to obtain admission promptly)
  2. Trial experience or a strong desire to litigate and try cases
  3. Excellent client communication, customer service, and compassion for injured clients
  4. Desire to work collaboratively within a team environment
  5. Strong writing, research, and organizational skills
  6. Understanding of auto insurance and personal injury claims preferred
  7. Experience with Filevine case management software and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  8. DC Bar admission or federal court admission is a plus

Work Environment

This position is in-person in our Annapolis office. We are seeking an attorney who values working closely with a team, collaborating on cases, and contributing to the continued growth of the firm, while supporting clients with compassion during challenging times.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.  Attorneys with an existing book of business will be considered for enhanced compensation structures. The firm offers competitive pay, with performance regularly reviewed and opportunities for bonuses and salary increases based on individual contributions.
